I think it is your John Revis who is one of the children next door to the Shipman's. The census listing is as follows:

Household #101
John E. Revis, age 53, Farmer
Rebecca Revis, age 43
W.K. Revis, age 21, M, Farmer
J.M. Revis, age 18, M, Farmer
Silome Revis, age 15, F
Daniel Revis, age 13, M
Jasper Revis, age 11, M
Elen Revis, age 10, F
Toliver Revis, age 8, M
Rebecca Revis, age 3, F

Then the next household, #102, is Charles Shipman's, where there is included:

James Revis, age 17, M, Laborer

Hadn't heard the school idea before. Possible. I wondered if maybe there was more than farming going on, maybe some sort of manufacturing. Household #99 was a bunch of cabinetmakers, and a cabinetmaker is also living with the Shipmans. Maybe they ran sort of a boarding house.
