Michael Rhett of Colleton Co., SC
Am interested in obtaining information about a Michael Rhett, said to descend from the Smith/Rhett line, who I think lived in or near Colleton Co., SC around 1900.
My interest is in the Smith/Padgett/Rhett connections in Colleton Co.
When I was born my Mother nick-named me Mike, in part for her 'favorite cousin, Michael Rhett.' Mom was born in Colleton Co in 1907, a daughter of Nita Smoak Redish and Edward Peoples Redish.
Her grandparents were Hyburnia Smith, sometimes shown as Elminia, and James Madison Smoak. Hyburnia is said to have been a daughter of William "Yorkie" Smith and his wife Jane Smoak. One of thier sons was named Albert Rhett Smith.
I have always been told this line descendend from Landgrave Thomas Smith thru his descendents whose names were changed from Rhett to Smith.
Any help would be appreciated and I am always willing to share what little I do have on the family.
Thanks,
Tom Atkinson
