Awhile back I went searching for more information about my great grandmother, Clara Elizabeth Smith. Through converstions with family members, Clara's parents were Samuel C. & Julia A. Smith who lived in Jamestown, New York As I did research, I discovered Julia's maiden name was Pierce and both Samuel and Julia were born in Rhode Island, Warren, Bristol, Rhode Island in fact. Clara was born about December 26, 1861 and Married John Lewis Bates who became govenor of Massachusetts. I am trying to find Julia's or Samuel's or both their birth records and possibly record of their marriage abt. October 4, 1852.
