An obituary might be a good place to start as that might name surviving children and deceased children. I don't know the newspapers for New Bedford, MA.
You will have to Google and try to find either newspapers or the contact information for the local library which should be able to tell you the name or names of the newspapers serving the city. You might also ask the library in New Bedford, should you contact them, if they have whatever newsapers they might mention & do look-ups and copies from them and their fee schedule for the service.
