Seeking Land Records from Central Falls RI re: Woodward

Hello kindly,

I have sought twice now via regular mail request to obtain from the Central Falls Rhode Island folks, the land records I am seeking regarding my direct ancestors Thomas Woodward and his sons, Nathaniel Woodward (also spelled Woodard) ca. 1750's through to 1780.

Yet, the response the first time was that they NEVER got my request after telling for three to five months that they "were too busy with licensing" and after that five months they allegedly lost my request for these particular records.

The second request I sent, was met sadly with a woman calling me telling me that I was looking for a "title search" and that they couldn't help me with my request.

I keep getting told the land records for this period of time for Smithfield/Providence Rhode Island is at the Central Falls Rhode Island Records Dept./Town Clerk's Office.

I desperately need someone who would be willing to do a bit of copying for me of these Land Record or someone who could kindly direct me to how to go about getting photocopies of the records of which I am seeking. There is a bit information down there in that area of Smithfield RI ca. 1750 to 1779 on my direct Woodward ancestors and I am endeavoring to get these Land Records copied and in my possession in regards to my research.

Nathaniel Woodward was the son of Thomas Woodward and Ann Young. They lived in Smithfield RI bef. ca. Mar 1779 and I am trying to identify a possible place of migration the son Nathaniel and his father Thomas might have taken after 1779 before Nathaniel's "widowed" wife Mary Brittain and his children (Jeptha, Amaziah, Clergy, Benjamin, Nathaniel Jr., Darius, 1 other son, dau. Mary, Molly, dau. Louis, and possibly a dau. Tiptha) arrived in the Orange County, Vermont- Caledonia County, Vermont area ca. 1782.

I wouldn't think that Nathaniel Woodward would have left the Smithfield RI home for parts unknown without having some support financially; etc in which to keep stability in the family while enroute northward into Vermont.

I am seeking what direction of travel this family took.

Willing to share my resarch with any and all. I am wiling to cover the appropriate costs to gain the copies I am seeking from the Land Records re: this family.

Kindly,

Douglas Lloyd Buchholz
