Hi Bill, I am sure that the FANNY HEWITT was my FANNY, pardon the expression! HA HA. for a number of reasons. the only 2 english census returns she is on, are the 1871 and the 1881. On the 1871 census she was living in a lovely WELCH VILLAGE, named BANGOR ICY COED, now the site of one of ENGLANDs race courses, not the flat racing but the jumping races over hurdles and fences, a most lovely picturesque village. He father was the Inn Keeper of the ROYAL OAK Inn, as well as a farmer, right on the banks of the river dee, and when i mean right on the banks it was just that, less than 30 yards, and the village consisted of the Inn, the church and 4 houses, absolute heaven now. then her dad JOSHUA died in 1878 i think it was, and the family split up, ELLEN her mother went to live with my grandfather CHARLES LUNT and my grandmother ELIZABETH LUNT, nee HEWITT, FANNYs older sister. FANNY then went to live in STOCKPORT CHESHIRE with another of her sisters MARGARET and she is on the 1881 census living in Bilinge Street age 15 with her sister MARGARET age 19. they both worked in the mills as cotton spinners, until 1885 when MARGARET married and left FANNY on her own. Another one of FANNYs brothers, THOMAS born 1858 had already emigrated to the USA and on the 1880 census hes at ROCHESTER, LORAIN, OHIO working on a farm, so i believe that FANNY decided to move out of ENGLAND and go live with THOMAS. on the passenger list, FANNYs particulars are as ive told you, age 22, single, and boarded the ship at LIVERPOOL, occupation SPINNER. Now to verify that, ive searched all the marriage records for the UK right up to 1960, thats 94 years, and ive also checked the death registers up to 1965 thats thats 100 yrs and she isnt there, oh yes i forgot ive also checked all the census returns for 1891 up to 1901, and she isnt there, so taking all that into consideration ive come up with the fact that the FANNY HEWITT on the passenger list is my FANNY HEWITT, my long lost g/aunt. I forgot to mention also that ive checked the Canadian and Austalian immigration records just in case, particularly as the HEWITT family and mine, the LUNTS had a liking for CANADA, ive still got relatives living there, Harold Beard married one of my aunts, JANIE LUNT and they went off to live in canada, and hers a little bit of black sheep gossip, one of their sons was a bit of a jack the lad and he was married to 3 different women at the same time, something almost unheard of back in the 1930s when you could get sent to prison for that, and he had to get out of england fast when the police came looking for him, and he finished up in Canada, where he met a nice girl and settled down, so it just goes to show you can change. Anyway thats the full story, and i will say without doubt that the FANNY HEWITT on board the Italy was my g/aunt. All i need to do now is find her. sounds easy doesnt it? EDDIE.
