I think somebody has already mentioned this to you, but I think you should look closely at the Phineas Larkin who married Sibel Weeden. They are on the 1820 RI census, but I don't see either of them on later census. David Weedin Larkin's obit said his father died after they had moved to Schoharie Co, NY and David was sent to live with an uncle. The Larkins in Schoharie were definitely related to the Phineas who married Sibel Weeden. After the death of the father the children were supposedly scattered among other families (according to the obit). It wouldn't be unheard of for Sibel to have returned to RI to live with a family member. Phineas does not show up in the cemetery records where Sibel is buried, unless he is not recorded. It's possible he died in Schoharie Co.

Your David's middle name is Weeden- Phineas married a Weeden.
Your David's father died when he was still a boy- Phineas disappears from the census after 1820.
Your David was born in RI- Phineas was in RI 1820.
Phineas Larkin's father was named David.

It's too bad the obit did not mention siblings of David- that could have been helpful. Have you already gotten David's death record? Maybe there is some useful information on it. Is there a library in Adams Co that you could contact and ask about any local history books? You could do the same for Schoharie. These days you can find a website for most libraries online.
