JOHN NICHOLS (b. betw. 1770-1780 accord'g to Smithfield 1840 census)); md. MARY/MARCY/MERCY DAVIS (b. betw. 1780-1790 accord'g to above census).

CHILDREN OF JOHN AND MERCY NICHOLS (Not in any order, but with details for each that may further identify this family):

1] PHEBE ANN NICHOLS (my next direct Nichols ancestor), (b. "Jan 28, 1812", perhaps Exeter, RI, d. Jan 10, 1895 No. Smithfield, RI, buried Mineral Spr. Cem,Pawtucket); married DEAN NICKERSON, (b. ca 1809, d. 1865 Civ. War), son of DEAN NICKERSON AND NANCY ANN POWERS of Ma.; Phebe and Dean were md. in Smithfield, RI on Jan 24, 1833;they had ten children that I know of (Surname Nickerson): Dean; Elijah; Thomas Olney; John Horton;Phebe Ann; Winslow;Elizabeth Ann (my next direct ancestor, md. John Henry Bailey); William Francis; Alvin; and, Edwin (all b. betw 1833 and 1850).

2] ANGELINE/ANGELINA NICHOLS (twin to Adeline, below), (b. 1819-1820, d. ?); md. ROBERT MARKHAM, April 11, 1841, Smithfield, RI. Children (surname Markam): Thomas; Mary; Adeline; Emily (Amelia?); Samantha; Angeline; and, Robert, all b. betw. 1842 and 1860).

3] ADELINE NICHOLS (twin), (b. 1819-1820, d. 1901 RI); md. (date unknown to me) COLLINS TURNER (1811- 1859). (Two children: Mercy Desire Turner, and Josephine A. Turner).

4] FONES/PHONZE NICHOLS, no further.

5] CALEB NICHOLS, no further.

6] STEPHEN NICHOLS, "a seafaring man", no further. I did, however, find a marriage for a "Stephen S. Nichols" that took place in Smithfield 13 Sep 1840 - he md. a Mary Ann Nichols (nee STONE)....this may be him.

7] (Perhaps) MARY OR MARTHA NICHOLS, no further.

8] JULIAN/JULIE ANN/JULIA ANN/JULIANN NICHOLS (b. say 1809, d. betw. 1870-1880, RI); md. Aril 23, 1829, HORACE B. MOWRY/MOREY (b. ca 1809, d. Jan 22, 1890, RI); two children that I know lived: Elhanan Mowry; and, Ellen Mowry).

NOTE 1: Child [1], Phebe Ann, said, as a young girl, she attended Richmondtown Church, and Exeter Meeting House.

NOTE 2: As far as census info, I found John Nichols family in Smithfield in 1840, based on the marriage information for his daughter, Angeline, who was "of Smithfield" in 1841. I went to the preceding census, and in 1830, found a John Nichols family living in Seekonk, MA, next door to Phebe Ann (Nichols) Nickerson's father-in-law and mother-in-law.

DOES ANYONE RECOGNIZE ANY OF THESE NICHOLS INDIVIDUALS??

If so, I would appreciate hearing from you, and thanx so much.

Regards, Kathy - Long Island, NY
