Hi Greg,
I am Billy Rial, your brother in law from Montevideo, Uruguay. You are right, the name RIAL is now a last name or surname. Is what they call a "Patronimical" name. It is a geographical place among the ancient celtic valleys of the coasts, beaches and ports of the old kingdoms of Galicia. Priors of the spaniards. Same of our ancestors were called "Del Rial", "Do Rial" and even "Du Rial". The branch of Josefa Do Rial migrated to France and she was the mother of
Francis I. In the line of my grandfather, Francisco Rial Lorenzo, we have Antonio Del Rial y Flores. There still exist in that historical zone of the "Rķas Galegas" at least
three villages called "RIAL" with their distinctive coat of arms. From there they went to Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland and also America. See you soon!
Please give my love to the family. Uncle Billy.
