My name is Phil Riall I am currently researching my family history.
This bit of interesting information I found today on the net.
. William Royall was born about 1570 in England. The name "Royal" has been spelled and recorded in many ways: Royall, Royals, Royle, Rohle, Ryles, and Raill to name a few. All are descendants of the Norman Ancestor Turston Due Roi. In ancient and medieval time, the Du roi (French for Royall) family occupied a baronage on the west bank of the River Seine, in Normany. They were listed as accompanying William teh Conqueror in the invasion of England in 1066. The American branch of the family comes from the immigrant Joseph Riall, Royall, Royals, or Ryals. Joseph Riall imigrated to Virginia in 1637 and was half brother to Henry Isham, who was descended from nobility. Hannah Boyes received 300 aacres in Henrico County (adjoining mother, Alice Edloe) and 250 for transportation of five persons, including Joseph Riall, Thomas Luis and Oliver Allen, July 13, 1637. Page 85, Vol.. 18 Virgiania Historical Magazine: Henry Isham of Henrico County, Virginia will of November 13, 1678, probated June 5, 1680. to Joseph Riall, my half brother, 40 pounds in goods. To Richard Perrin, his wife; John Wilkinson, his wife, and William Bryd and his wife to each a gold ring. To my honorable Mother, Mrs. Catherine Isham, one full third of my personal estate in Virginia and England, my plantation in Charles City County, Virginia, to my sisters, Mrs. Mary Randolph, Mrs. Anne Isham all the rest of my estae to my executor Mr. Wm. Randolph. Henry Isham (1628-1676) was the son of William Isham, who married Catharine Banks, widow of Joseph Royall.

My side of the family are descended from General Sir Phineas Riall who was captured by the american forces in The War of 1812
