Rial, the surname, is quite common in the region of Galicia, Spain, an area with many rias (fjords) where (so I'm told by my in-laws) Rial meant 'de la ria' or 'from the fjord.' I married a Rial, hence our e-mail name is made up from Armstsong and Rial.
