Sorry, no James in my line until my great grandfather James Robert b 1861 in MO. I agree with you that James is your guy but naturally we would all like to prove those things. It is true that marriage records were not recorded by the state when Hannah and Abner were married but many marriage records do exist in church records. Do you know what religion they were when in NY? Also, you say you have checked for an obit but to no avail. Are there no newspapers for the area at the time of their deaths, or no surviving newspapers for the years of their deaths?
