I received your e-mail message and decided to answer your questions here so others might benefit as well. I was excited to learn of another person looking for a Ribble connection in Philadelphia. I have not been doing much lately on my Ribble line because I have run out of options it seems. That is as far as finding our ancestral home in Europe. But I do have some things to offer in your search for the parents of Joseph Ribble of Philadelphia. The old records of Philadelphia and S.E. PA are filled with references to Ribbles. You may be suprised by how many Ribbles there were prior to 1800. I know I am. Back in 1994 I put together a letter and a number of FGS's of Ribbles I discovered in my research. The document is about 50 pages long. What might help you the most is for me to send you a copy of that document. If you would provide me with your address I would be pleased to send one to you. I reviewed it again tonight and think that there are a number of possibilities for the Parents of The Joseph Ribble you are looking for. I have detailed the Philadelphia city directories in that letter. I do not believe that any directory for 1799 is available.I only show one for 1791 and than the next one is 1805-6. In 1791 the only Ribble listed is William Ribble gentleman. When I searched the city directories I did not record all the variants of the Ribble name and have been meaning to get back to that since just looking under the ribble spelling is not good enough. I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind. What source does your friend have for Joseph Ribble's age and birthplace? What are the earliest records she has for Joseph in VA? I look forward to corresponding with you further. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly via e-mail if you prefer.
