On November 21, 1839,Martin Ribble married Nancy L. Smith (born June 15, 1821)in Delaware County, IN. They were unable to have children, so when her sister, Lucy Smith Lowry died in 1847, they took in four of Lucy & James Lowry's children.
Thus the children listed on the census are actually Melissa J. Lowry-Ribble, Mary Nancy Lowry-Ribble, George Washington Lowry-Ribble, & Andrew Nathan Lowry-Ribble.
After Andrew died, his widow, Christina Ribble & their son Washington Ribble also went to live with Martin & Nancy Ribble.
