Archivio Storico del Banco di Napoli (Palazzo Ricca)

The Monte dei Poveri del Sacro Nome di Dio (Mount of the Poor of the Holy Name of God), created in 1599 by the combination of two older congregations dedicated to helping the needy, acquired the palace of Gaspare Ricca in 1617 to house their growing organisation. The Monte, later to take on the name and function of bank, occupied the building until the company was finally disbanded in 1808. The 17th century fašade in trachyte is by Gaetano Barba who also designed the high altar (1771). Inside the church, currently closed, are paintings by Luca Giordano (1673) and Francesco Solimena (1686). The Audience Rooms are decorated with frescoes by Giacinto Diana (1772). the palace contains the Historic Archive of the Bank of Naples, constituted in 1819 when Ferdinando I ordered the preservation of all documents, acts and writings of the eight Neapolitan banks later to unite to form the bank of the city.
