Ray, I'm not following the line that you are asking about, but I believe that Carey Swinford, my gggrandmother, was sister to Eli. She had a grandchild named George Eli Walters, which further strengthens the idea.
According to other "cousins", their father was Seth Swinford. In the 1820, Greenville, S.C. census, he is on page 83 100010-32010. This same source shows that Eli married Sarah Richer 11/3/1837 in Marshall County, MS. Maybe the 3/11/1837 was when they posted bond for the marriage. It is sort of "permission to marry". The same source says that Eli moved to Saline CO., AR and died at the age of 49 of pneumonia. His birthplace is listed as NC. Sara A. Swinford is in the 1870 Saline CO. census #696.
I have a lot of info on Carey and her descendants, but nothing else on Eli or his.
As for their parents, another "cousin" lists Elizabeth Cherry as mother. Someone else calls her Elizabeth Post.
If you would like more information on Carey, I've got lots!
