Thank you for your post, it was very INTERESTING!!!! I have heard so few tales like this about ships built by Rideouts, that hearing this tale was so nice! Thank you.

The Maine Maritime Museum (they have a website) is doing some research for me about shipbuilding Rideouts. I'll let you know if anything comes up in particular about that ship. I expect most of the information will be more general about the Rideout family, rather than ship-specific.

I know that there is a publication out there called the Bowdoinham Advertiser, and I've read some clips that mention Rideout shipbuilding. It may be a help to you. I don't know when it was published, or how to come across finding it, but if you are able to locate it's volumes, please let me know.

Also, some of the other Rideout ships that I know the names of are the Magda (flew under the Spanish Flag), built by J.T. Rideout in 1884. The Cynosure, built in 1842. And the Sea King (largest ship to come out of Bowdoinham), built by a John P. Rideout.

There was a Rideout shipyard at the foot of Main Street in Bowdoinham. I don't know which Rideout it would have been.

There is a Johnson Rideout, born in 1795, son of Stephen and Abigail (Smart). Johnson Rideout married to Martha Ann Allen. They had a Johnson Rideout, who was born in 1821, and who married an Elizabeth Whitmore.

I hope this little bit of information leads to further information about the ship you are inquiring about.

If you find anything, please let me know!

Thanks again!
