Many thanks for that listing of lineage. I'm very curious as to how it continues. I've been told by my elders that the name 'Rideout' comes from the riders who would accompany generals out to convene with their opponents before battle. I've also been told that the Rideout's were both Hugeonot and Loyalist. I'm not sure whether any of that is correct.
My Great Grandfather George Rideout was as I posted earlier the chief of police in Moncton. My Grandfather Sherwood was born whilst George was in Ontario for a meeting of the chiefs of police from across Canada. A telegram came into the meeting that my Grandfather was born and the conference decided that they would name the baby. The baby was named Sherwood, for the outgoing chair, and Hayes, for the incoming chair.
Now I've not been able to find the information on the internet verifying the name of organization or any such chiefs of police conference. But I have to think it is a true story considering the name is so unique.
If you would like I can fill your family tree in from Sherwood to present day, however, I think the real geneological finds are in the distant past.
Do you know where the family tree goes as it is traced back to Europe?
Thanks very much and I look forward to your next post!
