To follow up on what Kim had said, our ancestor Samuel Rieck or Reick (b.~1823) came over from Prussia ~1857 and married Wilhelmina Henrietta Mollenauer in 1858. They had three children: Minnie (b.1859), Sarah (b.1861), and Edward(b.1864, started Rieck's Dairy).

In 1866, Samuel was kicked in the head by a horse and died. Wilhelmina remarried Daniel Rech, and they had three children: Emma (b.1869), Louisa (b.1872), Henrietta (b.1875).

The 1870 census had all children listed as 'Rech', but Samuel's three children all kept their father's last name 'Rieck' into adulthood.

Edward was the only male that would have carried on either name though.
