Have you been able to get a copy of your father's discharge papers from the service? They give a lot of information. My father, William Rieck, also served in the Army in Germany during World War 11 and was also awarded the Purple Heart. When he received it, it was written up in our local newspaper.(Lindenhurst, NY). Have you checked newspapers of your father's hometown at the time? The Veterans Administration should also be able to give you information, especially since your father is deceased.
