lis ca pour voir si c'est vraie - c'est la fille de louis vincent (frere
de germaine) qui m'a envoyer ca.
I regret to inform you that what you have held as a belief, for however
many years, about your genealogy is quite inaccurate. You are not of
French descent, but, you are ofHuron or Wendat descent. And you are from
a line of Chief's. After spending countless hours, and too much money,
snooping in the P.R.D.H. in Montreal, I can safely state:No Francois
Louis Vincent or Louis Francois Vincent , or any combination of that name,
ever got off the boat in Canada from Lyon, France, or any other French
city.
The Seraphin (aka Stanislas Louis) who moved to Chateauguay, who was
married to Henriette Lacoste, was a direct descendent of Louis Stanislas
Vincent - Huron Chief, given his name by the Jesuits.Seraphin (aka
Stanislas) was given his land there, as a reward for having captured 40
americans around 1812.
"Seraphin's" father's name was Stanislas or Stanislas Louis Vincent
aka "Seraphin", and he was married to Marguerite Benoit. His father's name
is Louis Stanislas Vincent - not Francois Louis. Also ,Catherine Clement -
if she is indeed our great x3 or 4 grandmother... was a source of
annoyance. There is a Catherine Clement married toanother personin the
early 1700's, and he dies and she remarries, but not to a Vincent and
there's no proof of one ever married to a Vincent, nor is there any proof
of any Catherine Clement coming off a boat, nor being a mother to anyone
coming offa boat. There is, however,a Catherine Clement aka Catherine
Annennontank, who may have been married to the Huron Louis Vincent prior to
marrying the 2 other french guys, whereby there would be no written
record, because the natives did not keep written records.I am still
working on getting the proper names for our ancestors.
Regardless of the real names, we are defintely "Metis", and not
French, and I have the card to prove it.Because our great grandpa comes
from Quebec - we belong to the Quebec Metis Federation. Our tree is now
registered with the Dept.of Indian affairs in Ottawa.Also...these people
have been looking for us, for years.Apparently, the last contact was made
with the family approx 60 yrs ago,by ametis federation, and at that
point, "they" (the family) preferred to live anonymously where they were.
After I submitted my tree to the Q.M.F. they called me and asked : "Do
you know who you are?"They also pointed out to me that I bear a
remarkable resemblance to my great great grandmother, Henriette Lacoste,
(Stanislas' wife)who is apparently, quite noticeably native.(Had to
send a picture of myself)I later substantiated their claim by contacting
the Wendake Nation, and after several days of answering emailed trick
questions (I assume to eliminate imposters) Michel GrosLouis, Chief of the
Wendake Tribe in Quebec, sent me this email, which for once and for all
connected all my dots, and explained how the Vincent's ended up in
Chateauguay.
kwe
two huron or wendat / wyandot men from my village (Wendake or Huron Village
/ Lorette) moved to Kahnawake ( near Chateauguay ) by 1810. Then those two
guy fought in the war of 1812 on the side of the british at the Chateuaguay
battle. There was a indian troup there. Many of my village were also there.
Stanisclas and Joseph (two brothers) that lived in Kanahwake those days
but originaly from Wendake) were heroes at that war. Apparently they
captured 40 american soldiers by theirselves. I followat the Kahnawake
church records their descendants but after lost their trace.
In the Mohawk village of Kahnawake ( circa 1820) many huron or wendat lived
there, most half of the population were huron among the Mohahk.
I know that Stanisclas and Joseph got two big farm land in Chateauguay as
gift to have fought during the war 1812.
Vincent, back in 1780, was a first name in Wendake. Then he got few son and
the priest called gave to them the name of Vincent. The priest can not
speak the wendat language so he gave to them a french name.
Catherine Annennontank ( this is a wendat or mohahk name)
There is no family name Vincent in Kahnawake any more, but many in Wendake.
Of course some Vincent are from French and some are from the Huron ( first
name ) and also a Vincent family in Oka (of algonquin nation, Kanesatake)

In any case, I hope I have not traumatized you too much, but I feel
that the truth should be known!I, personally, am now going to work on
getting "Status" which I've heard is possible if you come from a line of
chief's.However, whether or not they grant it to me has yet to be seen.
It takes about 2 yrs.I have always known there was way more native blood
in us, than acknowledged, and it may have taken me 35 yrs to prove it, but
I, for one, am way more at peace with myself now!
Feel free to contact me with your questions!
Sincerely,
Nicole Getty (Nicole Vincent)
Thank you
