My father did find the name to be German, as he also found that the 'transformation' resulting in the RIFE spelling was due to writing the name as it sounded,for example: Sheridan Riffe's parents spelled the last name RIFE,when Sheridan was enrolled into elementary school the teacher spelled it RIFFE resulting in a name change.
