I can't give you any substantial genealogical information about the Rifes but I can tell you, living next door to Buchanan County, Virginia, that there are many Rifes there. I've never heard of anyone with the last name of Rice in that county.

My maternal grandfather was Sheridan Rife who lived most of his life in eastern Kentucky. Unfortunately I know very little about my Rife genealogy.
