" The only record of the County Court from October 1775 to July 1777 is the April 1776 term-
Justices Timothy Riggs, William Graham and Joseph Hardin held a short term of court. This maybe counted for by the frequent meetings of the Committee of Safety has usurped the authority formerly belonging to the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Session and was functioning in lieu of the Court."
pg. 113- April Term-
"At the April Term, 1789, of the County Court: Timothy Riggs was appointed overseer on Main Broad River, from the South Carolina line to Upper Island Ford, where Thomas Morrow lives, and all persons residing within 5 miles of the river subject to work on the public roads, are required to work on the river, on call of the Overseer, not exceeding two days at a time, to clear out said river for boat navigation." In April 1794, Timothy Riggs was re-elected County Surveyor (was also County Surveyor for years 1791-1792.
In October 1796, David Dickey was appointed County Surveyor to succeed Timothy Riggs who had left the state.
This next bit of info. is from: Annals of Lincoln County, N.C. from a letter written by Col. Charles McClean to the Assembly and dated 6 Feb 1779, he stated that John Moore and his troops robbed Timothy Riggs of all his horses and saddles. John Moore was a Tory and had raised 300 men and claimed it would grow to 2000.
I know my JONES family connects to the RIGGS family, but havn't made the connection as of yet. Here, I will include the 1784-1786 Census for Surry Co., N.C.
Jones, Arthur
Hodges, Abner
Riggs, Samuel
Riggs, Zadok
Riggs, David
Riggs, Iram (sp.?)
Hodges, Edmond
Hodges, Barthalomew
Jones, John Litten
Jones, Thomas
1790 Census for Surry Co., N.C.

Hodges, Edmond
Hodges, Barthalomew
Hodges, Ambrose
Hodges, William
(Next door is Hiram Riggs)
1790 Census for Rutherford Co., N.C.

My interest as I had mentioned before is how the family is related to my Jones line or my Hodges line? Hope this information adds to someone's research.
