Howdy folks I am attempting to put together a comprehensive database of everyone named Rigsby (and spelling variations) who lived in the US up to 1900. Eventually I will extend this to England and the 20th century, but for now I'm keeping it limited. Earlier I posted all the Rigsby census entries from 1790 to 1900. I have now finished a first pass of an analysis of these entries, and have used the results to construct my database. Next I'll go through the Rigsby vital records I've managed to find, to get wives' names and children's birth dates. After that I'll do a second pass through the censuses to see if I can spot any new connections or identify anyone by process of elimination. When I'm through with the second pass I'll post an annotated version of the censuses. Then I'll go through all the rest of the notes I've accumulated on the Rigsbys and add whatever new details I can. I have the database online, so please take a look. The name index is here: http://hindskw.com/KennethHinds/nameindexr.html The Rigsbys are combined with the rest of my ancestors and cousins, so you will have to scroll down a ways to get to them. Be sure to check for alternate spellings, too. So far I have 2067 Rigsby, 272 Riggsbee, 89 Rigsbee, and 10 Riggsby. Possibly I have some of them mis-filed; sometimes it's hard to tell who was the first on a branch to use a different spelling. I've given each person an "R-number". For each branch of the family, I went back as far as possible. Each of these progenitors got a number. For example, Allen Rigsby who married Margaret Johnson is R35; Thomas Rigsby who was the ancestor of the DeKalb and Cannon Co TN families is R14; and my James Rigsby of Wake Co NC is R05. The children of each of these are numbered in birth order: Allen's first child is R35.1, James' fourth child is R05.4 . Following generations get additional numbers: my gg-grandmother Jane Ellen Rigsby is R05.2.5.4, the fourth child of the fifth child of the second child of R05 James. Corrections and questions are welcome. I know I don't have everybody in my database yet, and probably I made some wrong assumptions as I went through the census.
