Sue, there is strong evidence that Hiram's parents were Lott Ridgedell and Sally Smith. There are twenty-one variations of the spelling of "Rigsdell" that we have seen, one being Ragsdale. Ragsdale is not one of the more common occurances that we see.

Lott was probably born in Orangeburg, North Carolina, and his family moved to Louisiana in the early 1800s. We believe he lived in Louisiana until the early 1820s and then moved to Hinds County, Mississippi. There are stories that Lott moved back to Louisiana, but we have no record of him after 1822.
