I found out from the WWI draft registration card that John/Giovanni went by both names but used Giovanni Rine for his cursive signature. His wife was Rosa, but on 1930 Census listed as Rose. Draft card says from Palermo, Italy. Census says they both immigrated in 1899 and both were still aliens. Draft card says he was a fruit pedlar in the Eastern Market--self employed. He was of medium height, stout, hazel eyes and black hair. In WWI they lived at 875 Lafayette Ave. E. and in 1930 at 3754 Lafayette Ave in the 13th Ward, block 648 (enumeration district 82-375 Sheet 5B) both in Detroit.

Their children on the 1930 Census were Lena Gusmano age 22 with her husband Phillip Gusmano Sr. age 25 and under age 1 baby son Phillip Gusmano Jr; Anna, age 20; John Jr., age 18; Nicholas (Nicholas James Rine is full name), age 15; Joseph, age 9; and Mary, age 5.

If anyone knows about the origins or further details of this family, please email:).
