Pennsylvania/Ohio Ripleys
Hello all. Most of my line of the Ripley branch have come through Pennsylvania into Ohio.I'm in Indiana myself. My stumbling block is the "first" Ripley here in the US.
I of course don't have my papers in front of me, but what I inherited from my grandmother has a "Lewis Ripley" from GERMANY as the first Ripley in the US.Ripley is an English name, which leads me to one of two possibilities-1) There is talk from certain cousins there is a "Ludwig Reupel" which was Anglicized; 2) a "Lewis Ripley" came over on a ship (I have the name) with a load of Germans and his name was Germanicized.
Now, I do have some dates and names, just not in front of me.I'm just wondering if any of the above might ring a bell to anyone?
To help a bit, my father was John William, his father was Leland Asa, his father Malcolm Alonzo, his father John Frazier Ripley, his father Ezekial Cooper Ripley. At this point with the last two Ripleys, we are in the Civil War era, both being Civil War veterans in the 51st Ohio.
I appreciate any and all help.
Wm.T. Ripley
