HAROLD I. RISNER, 85, of HOWELL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Sunnyside Manor, Manasquan. Born in Linden, he married Ella May Wagner on Dec. 24, 1944. He resided in South Bound Brook, for 52 years, before moving to Clearwater Village, Spotswood, then Leisure Park, Lakewood. He lived in Howell, with his daughter, for the past two years. Mr. Risner had been employed by Supermarkets General Corp., Woodbridge, where he was the supervisor of Cash and Banking. He retired in 1987 after 25 years of service to the company. Mr. Risner was a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Third Marine Division. He was stationed in the South Pacific Theater of Operations and saw action at Bougainville and Guam. He was a past Commander of Post 363, American Legion, South Bound Brook, and was a member of Stevenson-D'Alessio Post No. 12, American Legion, Somerville, and Post 178, American Legion, Farmingdale, and the Marine Corps League. Mr. Risner was a member of the Pioneer Boys. He was Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 42, B.S.A, South Bound Brook, from 1956 until 1964. He was active at the South Bound Brook Senior Center, where he served as Trip Director. He served as Captain at the South Bound Brook First Aid Squad. He was also a Little League Coach in South Bound Brook. Mr. Risner had been a volunteer at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. He was an avid Bocce Ball player at Clearwater Village. He was a volunteer Bingo caller at Clearwater Village and Leisure Park. Harold was a very proud American and World War II US Marine. He enjoyed being active and never wanted to sit still for very long. He lived for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Risner was predeceased by his wife, Ella May Wagner Risner, who died May 26, 1987; and his brothers, Henry and Arnold Risner. He is survived by his daughters, Judy Wallace, Janet and Douglas Eso, and Joy and Kurt Kalafsky; his grandchildren, Colleen and Michael White, Annmarie Benson, Matthew Wallace and fiance Vicki Straz, Angela and David Herring, Danah Sweitzer and fiance Thomas Johnson, Connor, and Courtney Austin Kayla Kalafsky; and his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ella, Raven, David, Devon, Briann, and Thomas.
Friends will be received 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook. Funeral services will be 11 a.m.. Monday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Philip Matarazzo, Pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Howell, officiating. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.
