Sarah (either Beason or Cook) Rohm
I am searching for the birthdate and death date for my great grandmother, Sarah (either Cook or Beason) Rohm.Below is the info that I have on her along with some speculations.
I do know that Sarah married Isaac Rohm prior to 1855.Sarah had a sister Narcissus who married John Ptolemy Funk.
Believe this to be my Sarah 1850 Yorkville, York District, SC census Joseph Beason b. NC 53, Elizabeth b. NC 48, Narcissa 24 b. NC, Sarah 18 b. York District, Theodore 14 b. York District.Some older relatives believed that Sarah was the daughter of Riley (Wiley) Cook of Spartanburg Co. SC.
1860 Gaston Co. NC Census lists Isaac Rohm 37, Sarah 31, Cornelia 5...
1862 James E. McKee sold to Isaac Rohm 140 3/4 acres of land on west side of Burke Road on Second Persimmon Creek.
1863, Isaac Rohm of Cleveland Co. deeded as surety for a loan 60 acres on the northern side of this property to William Clark of Gaston Co. NC.
1863, March 1, Isaac Rohm enlisted in Co. E, 6th Reg. of NC State Troops.
1865, April 1, Isaac dies in Maryland after having been taken prisoner and released on oath.
1867, March 18, William Clark of Gaston Co. NC sold 60 acres to Samuel A. Torrence, land on west side of Burke Rd.
1870 Cleveland Co. NC census lists Sarah 31, Cornelia 15, Don Alvin (m) 13, Isaac V. 11, Perella (f) 9, Jacob 7.
1873, Dec. 16, Samuel A. Torrence and wife sold and quit claimed to Lewis Arrowood 72 1/2 acres of land on headwaters of Persimmon Creek.
1873, Dec. 18, Samuel A. Torrence and wife sold gto Sidney Wray and Franklin Wray the 60 acres of land on west side
of Burke Road and on Persimmon Creek.
1879, April 24, Under the name Raum, Isaac dec'd in Cleveland Co. records at NC Archives.Summons for relief from Sarah Romm, Cornelia J. Rohm, Euclid B. Rohm, Isaac V. Rohm, Sarah M. Rhom, and Jacob D. Rohm.A diagram represents the land of Isaac Rhom dec'd situated on Burke Rd. joining land of W. O. Weir and others.Thirty-six (36) acres laid off as dower for widow Sarah.Two tracts were laid off for sale:33 1/2 acres beginning on a corner with Wray land and 11 3/4 acres running with the Wray line.
1880 Cleveland Co. NC census lists Sarah Rhom 50, Caroline 24, Eudica J. 22, Isaac B. 19, Sarah M. 18, Jacob D. 15.
1886 Kyser map of Cleveland Co. NC shows S. L. Rhom on west side of Burke Rd. Her neighbors were McGills, S. Rhea, Fr. Rhea, and south P. C. Burton, H. Burton, N. Brooks, N. Clark.
1936, Feb. 10, my father gave the info for Cornelia Josephine Rohm Oates' death certificate.He said her mother was Sarah Beason and her father was Isaac Rohm.
As a child visiting the Long Creek Presbyterian Ch. Cemetery where Granny Cornelia was buried, Dad made the comment he needed to place a "rock" at his grandmother Sarah's grave.My father died in 1956.I would like to find this information and place a marker.
