I believe that the person you are looking for was born Banjamin Robert 14 August 1829 at St. Mathias, Rouville, Quebec, son of Francois-Xavier Robert and Zoe Surprenant. His spouse was from the same town in Quebec, her correct name was Zoe Renaud dit deLaurier. The genealogy of this family has been well researched and published by David Patrick Robert Your ancestor appears on his web site at the following URL:

My wife is also a Robar, descended from another son of Francois-Xavier, Nobert Robert. Both families took the name RObar in Vermont, but in New York they took the names Robare abd Robair.
