I may be wrong but feel certain that the original surname, in this country,is Robart. The first mention I have found is the will of a Vincent Robart who left a will in Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co., N. J. in 1714. Among his effects was a French Bible. I have had with a Rubart who has given me much information. A member of his family stated that the family was French. The will named wife Madeline and sons Vincent and John. These names continued to be used by male decendants for some time. My John and family moved to Ohio ca 1808. He died shortly after. His wife remarried with her name given as Rubert. daughter Rachel married, name spelled Ruebart, , daughter, Hannaah, was Robart, daughter, Phebe, was Robert. daughter, Amelia was Robart, sons all spelled Robart.
