My ggg grandmére was Josephine Aubin. On her children's baptismal records between 1814 -1821, in the Sacramental Registers of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Josephine's surname is variously spelled: AUBIN, OBEN, OUBEINE, ROBIN & even NANTAIS.
I have no information about her father's name, but her mother may have been Marie Magdre duChance, since Marie is listed as GRANDMOTHER of Josephine's son Jean Dominique Mercier on his baptismal certficate in 1814.
Josephine is listed as a native of Cap François, St. Domingue. The father of her children, Jean Dominique Mercier, is listed as a native of St. Surin, Bordeaux, France.
I would love to find out more about Josephine's origins. According to her death certificate [1862 in New Orleans] she was born in Haiti, which was called St. Domingue at the time, in 1794. This was just during the time of the uprising and many people fled to Cuba and New Orleans. Josephine's family must have been among the refugee community. Many of the her children's baptismal sponsors are also listed as natives of St. Domingue.
Her son Dominique, who was born in New Oelans in 1814, is listed a a fpoc on several of HIS children's birth certificates in the 1840s. Thus, I would believe that Josephine was also a fpoc.
I am most interested in learning more of any ROBINs who were on St. Domingue and came to New Orleans in the early 1800s.
