They also controlled the fishing industry at the Magdalen Islands and kept many Acadian families in poverty for over a century. My people still talked about them to this day. They were ruthless people. Our people had to sell their fish only to them and had to shop only in their store. Our family and all others were always in debt to them. They made sure it stayed that way, and not only in the Magdalens also Cheticamp.
