I have a Russell Co. VA Hess relative. Maybe you can help me learn more about her and her family.
Margret Alice “Maggie” Hess was my grandmother but she died 25 years before I was born so all I have of her is a picture of a thin sad looking woman in dark clothes. My dad was only 2 when she passed so he didn’t recall her either.
Margret Alice “Maggie” Hess was born 15 May 1899 in Russell Co., VA and died 2 October 1921 Swords Creek, VA. She was the second wife of Silas Henry Robinett and they were married 1 June 1916 in Russell Co. Silas was born 3 May 1864 in Tazewell Co., VA and died 27 January 1927 in Swords Creek, VA.
On Maggie’s marriage certificate is says her parents were Peter Hess, born 1872 in Elk Garden, Russell Co. and Catherine Peck born 1874 in New Garden District, Russell Co.. Peter and Catherine were married 4 March 1894 in Russell Co. And it is/was known that Maggie's grandfather was John Hess.
Silas and Maggie only had the one child, my father, Garland Jessie “Robby” Robinett B 20 Sept.1919 in Swords Creek, D 12 Aug. 1993 in Danville Illinois, M 23 Nov. 1943. Robby’s wife, my mother, was Lilley Elizabeth Buchanan B 6 Dec 1921 in Banner, Wise Co., VA and died 23 Jan 1999 in Dayton, Ohio. Silas’s first wife was Elizabeth Lewis and they had 8 children. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
