Hi, Thanks to the current genetic testing that is done for pregnant women over 35 we recently learned my sister has Thalassemia minor. Nothing to be concerned about, really, but just to be aware of. It usually manifests itself as slight anemia but requires no treatment (thalassemia major is not good however). Turns out my son and I also have have thalassemia minor (we both tested anemic and follow-up testing confirmed thalassemia). My dad has always been anemic but never had a follow-up test for thalassemia though we suspect it. Thing is this: thalassemia is really only prevalent in Mediterranean populations, some parts of asia and latin america. Given my red hair and freckles, and what I understand of my family genology, this seems curious. My question is, are there any other Robinett(e)'s out there with anemia or confirmed thalassemia? It's really just a curiosity at this point. I haven't traced my ancestry far up my dad's mom's line, but that might be a place for me to go next. Thanks, John Robinette 1323432-12-111 Takoma Park, MD Notify Administrator about this message?
