Robinette/Johnston connection in VA

Am trying to find information on Steven (b. abt 1865 in NC)and Martha (b. abt 1871 in NC) Johnston who had a daughter, Orpha (b. Jan 16, 1908 in VA d. Feb 1978), who married a Robinette and had a son named Clide/Clyde Robinette (b. 1929 in VA). Steven and Martha also had a son Robie (b. abt 1905 in VA). They were all living in Sullivan Co., TN in 1930. According to Martha's grandson, my father, she was full-blooded Cherokee, but the 1930 census lists her as white. If anyone has any information I would truly appreciate it as it has taken me 34 years to find out this much.
