Hi Jim, thank you for the additional information.I had always been told that the Rockwoods were of English ancestory.I have discovered that we are direct descendents of Richard Rockett, still not sure how or why the name change. It was my understanding that Richard Rockett came from England as well.I will check the Irish aspect of it and see if I can find anything.
I a bit of information that may help. There is a book out, "The Historical and Geneological Record of the Descendants of Timothy Rockwood" by E.L. Rockwood dated 1856, Boston Ma, published by the Compiler.I accidently came across it and it helped me a great deal.I found it in the Genealogcial section of the library in Independence MO.
I too had a complete road block, as my dad did not know anything about his family.Through Census reports I was able to find out more recent information, then took this book and worked backwards.Boy, did it help.
I hope I have been of some help and good luck.
Thanks again,
Linda
