I just happened to have transcribed a deed from Laurens Co., SC. Isaac RODGERS and his wife, Margaret, are selling 100 A to Thomas BURTON on Beaverdam of Little River. This would be two or three generations removed from your grandfather, but it's something for future reference.
I, too, have a CORNELL line.
And I know there were GARNERS out of the Philadelphia area in the 1700's.
