I'm currently trying to figure out if Joseph Roe who served in the Union troops during the Civil War in the 6th WV Regiment is the Joseph Roe who is my husband's ancestor. While looking for this connection, I found an article about medals that were created by the state of WV in 1866 for the state's Union Civil War soldiers.
