I am looking for descendants, collateral or direct, of Samuel L Roe, b 30 Apr 1840 d 20 June 1864.
I am working on a history of the Toombs-Benning brigade, in which the 15th Ga fought. I have an old, partial draft posted at home.comcast.net/~benningsbrigade; my sources have since expanded by a factor of three or four, but you can see where I'm going with it.
An institution holds a collection of letters written by Samuel Roe. The institution in question is not presently allowing public access to the collection, as what they have consists entirely of photocopies, rather than the original diaries/letters, and they either never had, or lost, adequate records on the provenance and ownership of the collection. They would be willing to allow access again if they can locate and get permission from the owners of the originals, or possibly from another descendant.
If anyone can help me I would be very appreciative
