various spellings of Roesler
Regarding my family; the oldest spelling I've found is Roesler from an 1841 Lutheran marriage record in Germany. Documents in the States have shown Roseler with an umlaut (2 dots) over the O, Roessler, Rosseler and other spellings and misspellings, but my family ended up using ROSELER without the umlaut.
The oldest document I've come across so far is of Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Roesler's (known as William)marriage in Oct.1841 (which took place in Osnabruck) He is listed as being "of Braunschweig" Germany. His parents are Heirich Andreas Roesler and Anne Caroline Muller. William and his bride left for America shortly after their Oct.1841 wedding, settling in Buffalo,NY. They had a number of children, including 2 sons, Theodore and William Jr.both born in Buffalo. I know Theodore also died in Buffalo.
