Rohde Family Genealogy Forum

It is now pretty evident that my GGrandfather's name was Rohde. His name was Henry(Heinrick)Herman. He was married to Sophia Wole(Wolf). It has been detemined from papers studied by the Sievert family that Sophia was of the direct line of the House of Hannover. This was the name of an English royal family from 1714 to 1901. It is therefore assumed that Henry Rohde was also of royal blood because no commoner was permitted to marry into a royal family line. The only other possible way that he could have married into the House of Hannover would be that he was an officer of great distinction and was given Sophia's hand in marriage to cement relations between Prussia and England. This last paragragh is only conjecture. It does however, seem to be the only plausible answers.
Not much else is known about Henry, except that he served in the Prussian Army during the Franco-Prussian War. This war lasted from July 1870 to January 1871 and it was during this period of time that he was killed in action. Henry Herman Jr. was reported to have given an account of his fathers funeral, stating that he remembers his fathers casket being carried on the shoulders of a group of soldiers, so this was evidently a military funeral with honors. This leads me to believe that He was an officer or someone of royal standing. Information received from the Sievert side of the family tends to substaniate what has already been stated.
If any of this makes sense to you or if you have any connection, please get in touch.
Good luck in your search.
Bill Rhode.
