I have a 1757 German Bible that I acquired in Gettysburg, Penn. It has three lovely family silhouettes pasted in the front with the inscription under two of them
F x P x V x Rohde.
I x F x Rohde
There is a later piece of paper that indicates that “My grandfathers and grandmothers taken 190 years ago… SH Goodrich” (spelling of Goodrich maybe in error as it is hard to read). This inscription and note is on old paper and in quill pen… I would guess from 1850 to 1870. That would indicate the silhouettes were from approx 1650 to 1680. The women’s hair-do on one silhouette would appear to be from approx 1760 and likewise the hat on the other women’s silhouette is appropriate for that period (clearly no later than 1760). The man is wearing a hat with a plume. Lots of lace… clearly a well off family.
Any ideas on who they may be? A tip in the right direction would be appreciated.
