ROHDE (of Germany) & GRAND-GEORGE: info?

Can anyone help me trace my family's origins? I'm only 16, but I've been curious about my family for a long time. As of right now, I don't have much information, but here's a little bit:
My father's name is John Max Rohde, one of 2 children of Richard and Jeanne Rohde. Richard (my grandfather) lives in Rock Rapids, IA. He has told me that our family has roots in Germany, but I'm not sure where.
I'm also looking for information on my mother's family. Her name is Rozane Dee Maxey (she's remarried), daughter of Richard and Carol Ryan. My grandmother's maiden name was Grand-George. The Ryan name may have originally been spelled Ryen, and I know that her descendants are Scandinavian. My mother says many of my ancestors are Norwegian.
If anyone has any information, it would be a great help. Thanks!
