My mother was a Roll with relatives in Indiana in the mid-1800s. Her branch of the family moved to Missouri and then to Kansas. My mother was born in 1913 and was the youngest daughter of William and Naomi Roll. William was born in 1859 and my grandmother was born in 1869. My grandfather was in his mid-50s when my mother was born and had the family Bible that records the Roll family history back to Michael Roll (who fought in the American Revolution) and Christina Vaught/Vought, his wife. The family Bible records some of the births and marriages that occurred in Indiana. I recently found a link to Michael Roll's father that goes back four generations to the early Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam in the mid-1600s. But I am not convinced that this is his line. My eldest uncle (born in 1898 or 1899) once told me that the family was from the Alsace area along the Rhine River while the new source indicates Holland.
