Rollands (Roluks?) of Ukranian origin
Greetings,
All of my ancestors came around the turn of the last century or slightly before.I have a relative who's done extensive research on the origins of the family in Europe, but I am not in close contact with him and would be interested to know if anyone else is a Rolland of Ukrainian origin?Do you know specifically if your name was changed from something else to sound more "anglicized?"We have been told that our name was originally "Roluk" or something along those lines, but it was changed around the time of immigration.A cousin of mine actually had a Russian professor (a prof. of History from Russia, to be more clear) here in the US who saw her name (Rolland) and immediately picked her out as a Ukrainian, and a Roluk. We already knew this fact but never expected a stranger to be aware of this seemingly obscure situation.I thought this a rather astonishing event and I'd like to know if this was for some reason a known trend? Were Roluks emigrating to the US (via Canada) and then changing their name to Rolland a dime a dozen in Eastern Europe? And thus well-known?This seems somehow unlikely...
Any other Rollands/Roluks out there?
Thanks,
Michael
