Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

That is always a distinct possibility. Middle names and sometimes first names that seem like they should be last names, can sometimes be the mothers or grandmothers maiden names. Knowing this, when you start searching marriage records and church records, keep this in the back of your mind so that you can follow that surname in the same areas your searching. Sometimes, as I have found in my family, the names were given because of really close friendships with someone. Don't assume anything until you find hard evidence proving any theories.
