I have connections to this family through the HELPHENSTINE line. The information I have came from Mae Helphenstine Ball. I'll list this connection and then go on to what I have about PATRICIO, which is what I think your grandfather's name is rather than Patreco. Patricio is Spanish for Patrick.

Also, since Patricio is your grandfather, from which of the children of Ida and Patricio do you descend?

The information that Mae Helphenstine Ball sent me listed Joseph ABEL and Mary WABYE. Perhaps I may have misread what Mae wrote but these are how I thought she spelled Ida's and Patricio's children's names.

Mae told me that Ida was also married to Henry Conrad Giebelhouse. Perhaps a first marriage?

Now, on to my CORDOVA connection to the HELPHENSTINE family:

Oliver Helphenstine (1874-1954) married Matilde Sofia Romero (b.17 Nov 1869)/

Matilde Sofia Romero wa the daughter of Maximiano Romero (1843-1901) and Jacinta Santistevan (1853-1902).

Jacinta Santistevan was a sister to one of my g-grandmothers, Margarita Santistevan (1865-1943). Both were daughters of Juan de los Reyes Santistevan (1831-1908) and Justa Sandoval (1835-1894).

On 26 May 1883 in Taos, Margarita Santistevan married Donaciano Cordova (1861-1941). They were my paternal great-grandparents.

Now, on to what I can tell you about Ida and Patricio:

I'm not sure when Ida was born, but I think that Max, the sibling before her was born in 1897, and Ada Adele, the sibling after her, was born 1901. Ida's sibs were born about 2 years apart, which would give her an estimated birth year of 1899. In fact, I just looked again and noticed that she was baptized 15 Jan 1899 in Taos.

Mae told me that Patricio Romero was born in 1886. This might not be accurate. If it is not exact then perhaps this following record might be the Patricio you are seeking.

I checked Taos baptisms and find a baptismal record for a JOSE PATRICIO ROMERO, baptized 15 Apr 1891. Perhaps this is your Patricio. We'd need a marriage record, which might give you the name of his parents to know if this is the correct "Patricio."

The baptismal record for this "Jose Patricio" baptized 15 Apr 1891, lists him as being 8 days old at the date of his baptism, son of Malachias Romero and Maia de Luz Padilla. The godparents were Donaciano Padilla & Maria Manuela de Jesus Mitotez. This record is on page 209 of the baptismal records of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church of Taos.

You might also contact Nancy Anderson, NM Genealogical Society, at and ask her to do a look up for you.

Do you have a copy of the record of the marriage of Patricio and Ida? Usually the marriage record will list if either is a widow or a widower and list the name of the deceased spouse, or list the parents.

Well, this doesn't get you the info you are actually seeking but it does connect you to someone who knows the Helphenstine family.

Remember, tell me who are your parents so that I can connect you in my records.

Blessings and good wishes. I'll be interested in what you find about Patricio.
