While I don't know if I'm equal to "heroic efforts" to solve this, I'm looking into it.
Was this article one of those available from the Sullivan County Historical Society? They have a long list of such articles available for $2.00 each. One deals with "Who was Emmanuel Gonsalus", and, while I have not yet seen this article, the possibility of Sephardic Jewish heritage has also been mentioned in the past for the Gonsalus-Duk family. Since Mr. Bert S. Feldman was once active in this organization, and other of his articles and a book he edited are available from them, it is a good bet that the article you mention was one of his, available in the past, though perhaps not now, through the Sullivan County Historical Society. I am trying to track this article on the Roosas down, and if you have a copy, or know of someone who has a copy, I'd very much like to see it.
The URL for the web-site on which this was discussed is no longer valid. If you, or anyone reading this knows of a valid URL, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

Sharilyn Whitaker
